| Rosser is among today's elite players. - William Weir, The Hartford Courant Mr. Rosser, whose white East Indian garb and benignly insane smile brought to mind Peter Sellers in "The Party", is a virtuoso of the evening's titular instrument. Mr. Anderson, wild-eyed and clad in a black Napoleonic uniform, provides piano accompaniment. The show opens with a mock ritual to summon the spirit of Termen from the ether, hilariously solemn choreography culminating in the duo smashing beer bottles over one anothers' heads. This elegantly sets the mood. The show consists of musical selections alternating with scenes of dialogue that bring to mind the best parts of "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead," mixing philosophical and scientific ponderings with intelligently absurd banter. The pair have a fantastic chemistry. - BroadwayWorld.com - Review Excerpt of "Unholy Secrets of the Theremin" ...undeniably captivating. - NYtheatre.com The audience was utterly mesmerized (the appropriate word) by his playing and utterly charmed by his openness in talking about the physics involved. I cannot recommend him too highly. - Robin Hirsch, Proprietor, Cornelia Street Cafe, NYC A Kip Rosser performance is more than just music, it's good theatre. Unlike a lot of thereminists, Kip doesn't just wave his arms around...he makes music. - WFMU Radio, 91.1 FM, NJ Thanks so much for being there... you contributed so much to the success of the day. Your great personality and your interest in people were assets in addition to your theremin. - 2010 Festival of Electronic Arts One of the most unique, challenging events Passage Theatre has presented. Kip is a unique artist and musician who is never at a loss for original ideas. I don't hesitate in giving him my full support. - David White, Assoc. Artistic Director, Passage Theatre, Trenton, NJ Not only does Kip Rosser provide a stunning performance, he also engages chilldren with the theremin's history, as well as tantalizing stories about the instrument and its inventor. Families listened and looked in awe. - Anna Van Scoyoc, Reference Librarian, Mercer County Library System. This brilliant showman is an angel who does not fear to go where other angels shy away. When a real talent comes along with the sensitivity and imagination such as he displays I can only rejoice. He possesses a remarkable ability to produce serial staccato and come in on each adjacent note with uncanny precision. No one else that I have ever heard can do this -- startling ability where the theremin is concerned. - Howard Mossman, Engineer and Builder of original 1929 RCA Theremins The audience was enthralled. Kip Rosser's show was intriguing, educational and very entertaining. It was enjoyed by a group with a wide variety of tastes. - Laverne Miller, Arbor Glen Retirement Community, Oldbridge, NJ Every year since 2005, Kip Rosser has performed at the Electro-Music Festival... a spellbinding experience. He is an outstanding Theremin player. I wish everyone who loves eccentric genius and electronic music could have seen this show; it was very exciting. - Howard Moscovitz, Festival Organizer, Electro-Music I know everyone shared my delight in your performance. Your discussion of the life of Mr. Theremin over dinner was a bonus. - John A. Dierdorff, Acting Secretary, The Coffee House, NYC Startlingly beautiful demonstrations of the Theremin's eerie musicality... it's indeed like hearing the music of the spheres - Backstage Kip Rosser is the Steve Martin of the Theremin. A new cultural phenomenon. - Dr. Alex Magoun, Director, Sarnoff Library and Museum, Princeton Rosser is a playwright and director, and a highly talented actor... the show provides a rare opportunity to see a theremin being played with equal measures of skill and humor. -Hy Bender, hyreviews.com He did a wonderful job! It was very dramatic... he performed two movements of Villa-Lobos's virtuosic Bachianas Brasilieras No. 5. The audience loved it and ate the whole thing up! - Olivia Mattis, Musicologist and Author' - Ridotto Concert Series Kip Rosser is much more than a theremin enthusiast. When I sat back to listen to him play during our session, I heard a musician with a total mastery of the instrument's language. Not only did Kip play all of the material I had prepared, he performed it with ease and emotional intensity. On top of all this, I found in Mr. Rosser a genuine colleague who is extremely passionate about his various interests. A true original. - Lushlife [nee Raj Haldar] Recording Artist !K7 Records Berlin My professor Lou Jacob once told me 'Always work with people smarter than you.' Kip Rosser is unlike anyone I've worked with before because he truly is ahead of me in his process and keeps my work moving forward. As a director, I often feel like I need to be a leader that sets an example for others in terms of style or content. However, working with Kip is, for me, a true collaboration, because I trust that he is doing his work to a caliber that is equal to or even far beyond that which I expect of myself. In addition to his work ethic, Kip's theremin music [for my film] is imaginative and innovative in a way that I haven't before seen. He introduced me to an instrument and visual vocabulary that I had no idea existed and which now can become a part of my directing aesthetic. His intriguing work is a gift to any director. - Sabina Ptasnik, Film and Stage Director I was immediately drawn to the manner in which he approached instruction. Kip displayed the acuity needed to assist someone when dealing with such an abstract instrument. His astuteness quickly took me from interested to apprentice. - Amanda B. Valvano - Music Therapist It is unfortunate Leon Theremin isn't with us to appreciate your engaging tribute to his contribution to music and electronics. - Bill Mozer - Vice President, Long Island Wireless Historical Society A superb musician who has dedicated himself to a rare and wonderful instrument that is a bear to master! - Tari Pantaleo - President, Kingston Greenways |
